Funding streams available:
NB: All the following funding streams are available to employed status learners only.
The main streams of Government funding available are:
- Pre-Apprenticeship Learning
- Apprenticeships at Level 2 and Level 3
- Modern Skills Diploma
Employer Commitment:
The funding streams available mean that the employer is able to access training free of charge for their employees. When ADT come to sign up learners on to a training programme they ask the employer along with the learner to sign a Learning Agreement. This sets out the individual responsibilities of the learner, the employer, ADT and the funding body. The employer undertakes to ensure the learner is fully supported during their learning programme and given time to see their ADT Training coordinator on a 2/3 weekly cycle.
Apprenticeships
These awards are available to all learners whatever their age. They consist of a framework of qualifications. The frameworks for each occupational area differ but the related NVQ will always be at Level 2 or Level 3. Time allowed on scheme varies from programme to programme. Full information will be given on this at the programme start.
A framework is a group of individually certified qualifications comprising of an NVQ, Key Skills and a Technical Certificate.
Modern Skills Diploma (MSD)
Modern Skills Diploma is designed for learners to achieve a level 4 qualification. There is no structured framework for this, but learners are asked to undertake an NVQ at Level 4 and two extra units of a level 4 qualification to complete.
National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)
NVQs are based on the National Occupational Standards for each vocational area of competence. They are written by industry in conjunction with the skills councils for each industry. They are authorised and approved by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA).
NVQs are broken down into units of competence. Each unit describes a key part of someone's job role. In each NVQ there are 'core' or 'mandatory' units to be achieved by each learner and a choice of optional units which can be chosen specifically to relate to individual job roles. NVQs are delivered in the workplace and evidence of competence is drawn from naturally occurring work situations.
Key Skills
Most Frameworks contain Key Skills at the appropriate level for the learner. These standards ensure that the learner is using communication skills and able to use number skills to the level required for their job.
As far as possible Key Skills work is mapped to the work done for the NVQ and full training and support is given to enable learners to achieve at the required level.
Technical Certificates
Most Frameworks now require the achievement of a technical certificate. These provide a way of testing the skills and knowledge of the learner and provide a certified outcome. The learner is provided with resources and support to prepare them for the tests and the tests are carried out in the workplace at pre-arranged times.
